If you do the right type of swimming there is no question that swimming is fantastic for surfing! Not only does it dramatically improve your cardiovascular capabilities but it also makes you much more comfortable in and under the water which helps you to stay calmer and in control when experiencing heavy hold downs etc! If your leash snaps you are more capable of swimming to safety OR possibly saving someone else in trouble in the water!!!
If you can't swim reall well you'll never be a competent all round surfer!!
