The objective of the Surfrider chapters is to diffuse the action plans of Surfrider Foundation Europe locally.

The role of Surfrider Chapters :

- Environmental action :

The Chapter builds its network of Keepers of the Coast to carry out an environmental Surveillance locally: observation of pollution, collection of information and feedback to the environment department at the headquarters. This allows the association to evaluate the significance of noted pollution and to take appropraite action with the chapter. In the majority of the cases, it is a question of establishing the dialogue with the communities and finding with them the solutions to eradicate the problems due to pollution.

The force of Surfrider Foundation Europe is its network of members. To efficiently carry out the environmenal surveillance a keeper of the coast questionnaire is availablt to ALL.


- Education/sensitization

A chapter diffuses the educational and sensitizing programmes of the association.

To do this, it is equipped with teaching aids created by Surfrider Foundation Europe. The Association, has almost fifteen years of know-how and uses the fascinating capacity of surfing to sensitize the young people and less young people of the respect of the ocean.

The active volunteers intervene in classrooms (and if necessary, in their class!), outdoor centres, and any place likely to lend themselves to sensitizing: field days, cleanings of beaches, etc.

A Chapter coordinates locally the Océanes Initiatives.

Each Spring, Surfrider Foundation Europe organises a huge beach cleaning operation across Europe (150 operations, 5500 participants).

The coordination of these Océanes Initiatives is the prerequisite for the creation of a new chapter. It is a question of communicating locally (posting, relations with the press) and recruiting a maximum number of people to clean the beaches over the weekend. Of course, these cleanings can be followed by convivial moments (surfing, concerts, sports tournaments, BBQ, etc) organised by the members of the chapter and the volunteers.

The chapters are what their members make them. According to the sensitivity of each one, we can set up all types of action as long as it is validated by the Board of directors.

Faderman..johan and I will take on the area round sundsvall and rally the other surfers into our group..we aren't many but we are a tough bunch of muthafuckas...we're in too!!!
