I have a 9´8" Bruce Jones high performance nose-rider that Karl Pope made into a bisect. It's a fiberglass board not epoxy or carbon, so it's a bit on the heavy side but incredibly practical.Fits in the back seat of any car & I don't pay anything for bringing it on a plane, it has already paid for itself. I asked Thane Pope if he would "convert" one of my other boards but they don't do that anymore. So I'm thinking about buying spare parts from them and splitting a surftech. I used to do it with my snowboards (lengthwise) for better backcoutry access. Could be a successful experiment or an expensive disaster.

Interesting! Do you know what they actually did with the board when they converted it into a bisect? They insert some kind of aluminium tube on each side of the split board and then use a slightly smaller diameter one that fits inside of the other two? Did they put fibreflass or something else on each side of the two split surfaces? Do you by any chance have a photo of it?

i'll take some photos and send them to ya this weekend. You described it pretty good, however there is one large hole and two smaller ones and the sides. They cut the board, bored a larger tube shaped hole in line with the stringer, then capped both halves with a prefabricated plastic piece that a removable tube slides into to connect them. There are two adjustable latches that lock it together. One on the top and one on the opposing side bottom. Then glassed it all seamlessly. I think it would be easier and stronger with epoxy, definitely lighter.

thanks for the explanation Fader. Sounds like the prefab plastic piece would be the trickiest part since they don´t seem to sell them. Looking forward to see those pictures thats very kind of you. I´ll write my e-mail on your guestbook.
