Molle in a major international surf magazine? For real!

An article about the campaign to save Molle (and other things?) written by Save the Waves founder Will Henry is going to be in Surfer's Path! (Surfer's Path is one of the sickest magazines ever, printed with soy based inks, recycled paper, super articles... QUALITY!!! ) That is pretty dope if it actually happens. Word from STW to me is, that it is! They need "high resolution photos". I had some until my computer and hard drive were stolen but I'm sure that there are a bunch of you who have some sick shots of Molle!

Can any of you narrow down a few of your favorite shots and contact me at whitman_alexander@hotmail.com ASAP. Surfer's Path need the pictures at the beginning of this week. So, do it now if possible, please.

I will then forward your photos with your name etc. to Save the Waves so they can submit photos and info with article.

They would also like a translated Landstyrlesen decision to read over and disseminate. My Danish is barely effective so I'm throwing this out there to all of you in the Swedish surf community. I know it is some work but, this is your chance to act locally and globally at the same time! Please help if you can. I will gladly take parts if you just want to do a paragraph. But, e-mail me directly please.

Our little fight to save Molle is an example of the success of an active surf community working within a well functioning democracy. It offers an example of both activism and democracy to others around the world and can serve as inspiration and as a practical blueprint.

The coastal area natur and culture values are of national interest and should be protected. Öresund and the coastal area have a very large value for recreational, tourism and wildlife experience.
The wavebreaker is planned to be located within the national interest "Kullaberg M:K". The national interest includes the medieval fishing village and the summer resort. It was during the late 19th century and primarily the 20th century that vacation(ing)??? was developed in Sweden. Mölle is to a large part recognized by its turn of the century resort buildings, many of them hotels or guesthouses. The hill side towards the shore line is littered with summerhouses. Parts are remaining from the older fishing village in the form of wooden cabins. North of the harbour are the remains from trenches from early 18 th century.
The Länssyrelse recognises the need for an extended protection against the waves in Mölle harbour, but is of the opinion that the proposed design lack information on how it relates to the surrounding environment.The wavebreaker would be placed in a sensitive environment with roots from the middle ages. For the wavebreaker to correspond to the national interest it needs a delicate design that aligns it with the current pier in terms of material, design and scale. It is the Länsstyrelse opinion that the proposal does not fill those requirements.
The länsstyrelse is also aware of the conflict of interest between the proposed pier and the surfers that uses the area adjacent to the harbour in favourable conditions. The surfers are of the opinion that their interests have not been taken into consideration.

According to 23 § förordning (1998:1388) concerning water construction-------

Länsstyrelsen finds that the proposed design for a wavebreaker does not agree with the "kulturmiljöintresse" (literally: culture-environment-interest) in and surrounding the harbour in Mölle. There is also an conflict of interests where the area as national interest for recreational use is used by the surfers.

Länsstyrelsen decides that the kommun shall apply for a permit according to chapter 11, 9 § MB (environmental law) for this construction."
To understand what all this means:
In the environmental law from 1998 all of chapter 4 defines close to 300 areas in Sweden that have a national interest for either nature preservation, historical reasons or recreational use. The area surrounding Mölle and all of Kullaberg is included in the list according to all three criteria. Länsstyrelsen uses the phrase "national interest" (riksintresse) as a specific location in their statement. Apparently the legal term for the area is "Kullaberg M:K".

The application was filed in reference to chapter 11, 12 § of the environmental law according to which YOU DON'T NEED A PERMIT for a construction IF it is obvious that public or private
interest will not be harmed. Just telling them what you intend to do is enough. "12 § Tillstånd enligt denna balk eller anmälan enligt 9 a § behövs inte, om det är uppenbart att varken allmänna eller enskilda intressen skadas genom vattenverksamhetens inverkan på vattenförhållandena."

The decision however is however that länsstyrelsen disagrees. The proposal goes against public interest (the "riksintresse") and private (the surfers). And the conclusion is to ask for an application according to 9 § instead of 12 §. Which is a proper application with all environmental impact thouroughly investigated that would be handled by the environmental court. "9 § För vattenverksamhet krävs det tillstånd enligt denna balk, om inte något annat följer av bestämmelserna i detta kapitel."

Just want to say that I actually have no idea of what Surfer's Path article would be about It's just being written by Save the Waves www.savethewaves.org founder Will Henry and part of it will deal with Molle. That's the very little that I know. 12 photos forwarded so far by 3 people- Anyone else?

Just write them in the thread and I'll cut and paste and polish 'em. Maybe you could cut them into the thread as well and just write below or above the Swedish text.
