heard on the grape vine that Mölle is under attack by developers and the Kommun, Maybe its a good thing and will give some wind protection or it might destroy the break completely. Im going to let the Kommun know that its a sacred spot and the needs of the thousands of Swedish surfers need to be taken into consideration ; ), might even convince them to build a reef there and use the wavebreak as a windscreen, could make a whole new point break, anyway im gonna make some noise, anyone else going to raise some questions with the Kommun???

Sounds that the pier will be extended and a new bath house built on top of the break, Heres a draft of a letter that i was going to send to the kommun, any suggestions...

Re: The redevelopment of Mölle Harbour and the destruction of its waves.

Firstly I apologise for the use of English in my correspondence, I have only been in Sweden fulltime for four months, though I have visited many times, and have not yet mastered the language.

I have recently become aware of plans to redevelop the harbour located in the village of Mölle located on the Kullen Peninsula. From what I understand the development involves an extension of the existing pier and the construction of a new swimming and bathing enclosure. As a very enthusiastic wave surfer I was alarmed at the prospect of one of the few surf spots in Skane being destroyed by a structure being constructed on top of it.

As you may not be aware Mölle harbour is one of the most popular wave surfing locations in Skane, with many people travelling from as far south as Malmo to surf the waves that it produces. I have discussed the matter with many Swedish surfers and they are also alarmed at the prospect of the Mölle waves being destroyed and have encouraged me to forward our concerns to you.

The waves in Mölle harbour break along the rocky shoreline opposite the mouth of the harbour and adjacent to the seaside road. Should a structure be built on top of this location or the harbour wall redesigned to block the swell from entering this area then the waves will be lost.

The wave surfing in the harbour attracts the attention of many tourists and residents and is a very unique occurrence in both Skane and the whole of Sweden. Such a rare natural phenomena is of great benefit to the tourism industry in Mölle as it adds to the unique atmosphere and character of the area.

I am very interested in assisting or advising the Kommun on this issue whilst plans are made for the development of Mölle. I am sure that you agree that it is in everyone's interest to protect one of the great things that Mölle already has whilst improving the village and the harbour.

One point to take into consideration.
We have been in contact with the kommun in some other non related to surfing issues and we wrote an open letter to the poititians of Höganäs kommun. Make sure that you do not do that mistake, find the name of the responsible person(s) and address the letter to him / her or them.

Good on you! Know that many of the old, conservative locals in Mölle are very pleased with the surfers visiting the village (guess it's percieved as a picturesque element). This is important to remember when surfing in Mölle. Without support from local non-surfers I think it will be hard to affect the current plans. I guess a good strategy would be to make all inhabitants aware of the situation and that the current development plan would ruin the break (maybe through letters to the local paper HD). Further, environmental arguments (if there are any?) is probably a highly effective mean to affect the plans. Maybe there are some skilled surfers that have the knowledge and time to get involved in the project and look at alternative solutions that would'nt spoil the break?

The dude in charge is Kovacs. I think he will listen. But we need more attention. We have to contact Helsingborgs dagblad and Sydnytt to come and make light of the situation. Rädda Mölle session is the way to go, with max publicity. Hopefully this weekend when the wind turns west...

hur går det med rädda mölle session? har inte detta varit under tapeten under en längre tid? men håller helt klart med att något borde göras om planer finns på att förstöra vågen. och att kontakta media e väl ganska bra, eller?

Hade precis besök av en reporter från Helsingborgs Dagblad här på kontoret i Varberg. Jag tog upp situationen med honom litet spontant (det lilla jag vet). Han rekommenderade att ta kontakt med lokalredaktionen för HD i Höganäs...om det blir en "Rädda Mölle Session" i helgen. Han sa att det alltid brukar vara problem med helgmaterial att åka på, så om det blir nå´t kommer de med största sannolikhet.

Hej all, tak for the suggestions, im up for the mölle session indeed, hope the wind gets up enough, does it need to be over fifteen when its in a westerly direction to get it going. If any help is needed organising it im available to just let me know, would be good to be able to send along all the newspaper clippings with the letter. The movie worked for me, you just have to wait until it's finished downloading. You also need a quiktime player, i can recommend the quiktime alternative...google to find it.

Ahhh thats wicked, patience is a virtue,
hows it looking for tommorow, does anyone think it will be working, how will the word be spread if its on, and when will it kick off

Kan man inte lyfta fram och dra nytta av liknande projekt från europa, usa, nya zeeland, australien osv(byggplaner vs locals,surfare) där surfarna vunnit slutprocessen? Finns det? Tror man kan dra nytta av liknande projekt och deras resultat. Om inget annat kan man lära av tidigare projekts misstag, var ska man börja, vem ska man föra sin kommunikation med osv.

Hoppas på en seriös och realistisk debatt kring motståndet till hamnbygget.
