Firstly, on behalf of a more sane America - I am sorry for the bombardment of crap that has recently crept into Surfsverige. Shortly after Gulf War 1, I witnessed a guy in the lineup at Zuma Beach, Malibu go OFFFFFFFF!!! at some kids for whatever reason ranting about how he had just come back from Kuwait/ Iraq protecting the United States, freedom and democracy... yadda yadda yadda. Fighting the good fight against maniacal dictators who deserve to get their asses kicked by ass kickers (as opposed to Swedish ass lickers) and surfing well, they just are not related. Sorry, one can draw a thread between the two but its tacky and deceitful. To "Petes": I suggest you smoke an M-60 barrel sized joint, indulge in a Type II diabetes sized Coca-Cola and scarf down a barrel of popcorn while watching Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. In fact, I suggest that all of you retro shape surfing pussy ass Swedish spoon fed socialist faggots (you'll get it after you all see the movie) see the movie. Scandinavia could learn a bit about the benefits and pains of immigration and the richness of American culture from this film. But this.. is... you got it - non-surf related.
Secondly, surfing in Sweden/ Denmark/ Norway has obviously been exploding - Surfsverige - like your local break - will not come back to the surfers. You want -someone wants- publicity? That's what you get. Famous people get stalked, famous web sites get spammed, hacked.... or whatever. With reference to the title of this thread, "Surfsverige Back to the Surfers", I suggest that it might be of our own doing that both fetid and banal non-surf oriented crap creep in. Actually, I'm going to distance myself from the "our" bit. I'm incredibly stoked for the crew and extended crew of guys that I've surfed with for the past 5 years here. However I don't make a kronor off of my love of surfing, I don't promote or villify the culture of surfing, I don't need to be liked by surfers to satisfy my love of surfing, and I keep secrets - for the most part (hehehehehe).
The lineup is full of more beginners, again. Last year, they were non-surfers. Next year, more non-surfers will be surfers and so on and so on. The longboard in the crowded lineup last week is another issue but at least he knew what he was doing. (NoTE: if you can't ride a longboard, stay out of crowded lineups or far away and inside of the peak until your friends tell you that you surf like Joel Tudor) My question to all of you clever socialist, everyman's right loving, single finned kooks is: where is the Burleigh, Anglet, Trestles or Malibu that can accomadate 30+ people at once??? Go ahead, spank me for not being a team player. Berate my selfish whining. Skåne was PACKED this week - naturally because it was the first episode of waves from the NW in a long time but still, it was pretty damn crowded. As crowded -proportionally- as any similarly configured spots in France or California on a good day - with half the pleasure per wave. But, like Surfsverige, the waves in Sweden will not become less crowded or less full of loons!
Finally, I miss an argument that inflames and festers long after the contracted infection. We had some good long self-righteous disputes a while back re: photos/spot exposure but all the back patting and "where's the best place to (insert verb)... in ...(insert country/town)..?" has been getting to me. I'd imagine there a shitload of flailing organic eating newbie not so viking vikings - only good for accidentally blocking the guy who was trying to catch the wave outside you- that are probably pissed off by now that they spent all that money for surf camp, surf school, surf rejse, surf gear only to learn that there are people who do not "really" want them in the lineup. Welcome to surfing in Sweden where we've gone a bit too far on the demand side. But once again, how have YOU influenced or not influenced this?
So FINALLY, I have this to offer (hijack)... Surfsverige AND Surf in Sweden Back to the Surfers! If you are a surfer, go surfing. Shut up and go surfing. Quit selling shit. Quit marketing yourself and your lifestyle, quit making moutnains out of molehills, quit geting all of your hip skater/ artist buddies-budettes into it. Sweden needs better football, more Ingemar Stenmarks and Bjorn Borgs, more kite surfers, a greater variety of fairly priced well crafted forest products for the home.... more mountain biking... a good Mexican restaurant within 10 min. range of Molle..... beer with more alcohol content..... more smiles..... anything else but more surfers in the water or non surfers on Surfsverige! I say... back to Kalsuppen! back to the Pleistocene! Back to Surfing in Sweden!
Kisses to you all
